In Marquette County, the State Journal spoke to a current DHHS employee, Kristie Carpenter, and obtained documentation showing a dozen cases assigned to Carpenter while she was off on medical leave for about six weeks. Carpenter said she did not know who, if anyone, worked the cases in her absence. She said that if any coworkers were covering her cases, they would likely be over the caseload limits and therefore struggle to service the cases as needed.
